International Series England
/Carding rounds of 71, 68, 71 and 71 Trav finished 3 under par and T12 at the Newcastle tournament.
The Asian Tour is building a UK swing, as part of this initiative, the tour returned to the UK this week for the 5th International Series event of the season at Close House near Newcastle in the North East of England.
As a part of the deal with LIV, a contingent of players from the LIV tour teed up, further strengthening the field. In the 3rd round Trav was partnered with Ian Poulter having played with Peter Uihlien and Hudson Swafford in rounds 1 and 2.
After a disappointing Open at Hoylake (save for a memorable hole-in-one!) Trav was focussed on chalking up a good result in his first Asian Tour event since April at the International Series Vietnam.
“This must be the steepest course I have ever played on, the views are stunning, it’s really exposed when the weather turns bad. Conditions were tough; wet on Friday and 3 to 4 club winds on Saturday. It was brutal on Saturday, really demanding to stay focussed, like every shot and putt was extreme.”
Trav’s round on Saturday finished on the par 3 18th with an unlikely par. A gust of wind blow a 9 iron 175m, some 25m past the pin and over a stone wall onto a hard dirt lie. A deft shot back over the wall followed by a green side chip in sealed the par!
“Finishing bogey, bogey is always bitter but happy to finish T12”.
The Asian Tour’s mini swing in the UK continues next week in St Andrews at the Fairmont’s Torrance Course.
