The journey of Travis Smyth has only just begun. After declaring his love for the game of golf during an injury in football, Travis hasn’t looked back since. At the age 17, he was selected into the Golf NSW elite program.
Travis had a string of successes as an amateur winning a number of prestigious events such as the Riversdale Cup. He gained valuable experience competing overseas in the UK and the USA.
His maturity earned him the captains’ role for the NSW state team in 2016 where his leadership contributed to the team to victory, taking out the Australian Interstate Teams Event.
In 2017 he continued to climb the amateur rankings reaching number 1 in Asia Pacific and number 11 globally after reaching the quarter finals in the US Amateur Championships. He turned pro in late 2017 claiming his Tour Card in Australia on the back of a winning a professional event the NT PGA Championship as an amateur.
Gaining exemption to final stage of Asian Tour Qualifying School he finished 3rd to gain touring status in Asia.
He retained his tour cards in 2018 and in 2019 finished 15th on the OOM in Australia and 43rd on the Asian Tour. He has had many top twenty finishers and his best results have been 2nd at the NSW Open in 2019 and 3rd at the Vic Open in 2020.
Since turning professional Travis has been supported financially and technically by Golf Australia the governing body for golf in Australia. Just a handful of elite amateurs are selected for this “rookie program”. These scholarships have been successful in advancing the careers of such talented golfers as Cameron Smith, Min Woo Lee, Lucas Herbert, Stephanie Kyriacou and Hannah Green.
Travis has been supported by Ping and Titliest for 10 years and more recently Lyle and Scott.
Overall in 2020 and 2021 he has played just 10 OWGR events and made 8 cuts. His world ranking continued to progress to reach a high of 296 in early 2020. Since COVID however he has had no opportunity to maintain let alone improve his rankings.
The Asian Tour restarted in November 2021 after a 20 month hiatus and introduced the International Series. This series adds ten events to the Tour with purses between $1.5 and $2m.
Travis had a runner up finish at the International Series in the UK which gained him a start in three LIV events.
Trav collected his third top ten finish in 2024 with a T5 finish in Morocco.
