Two top tens to start the year

Trav in action at the Vic Open.

Playing under invitation from Golf Australia Trav teed up on 1 February at the challenging 13th Beach and Creek courses for the 10th edition of the unique Vic Open featuring both men and women. Unlike the Webex Players Series events, competitors play for separate purses.

It has to be said that Trav has missed cuts at this event twice, the first as an amateur in 2017. This time was very different. Friday’s second round saw him post the best round of the day on the Beach course; 6 under par in a “3 club wind”. He finished the tournament tied 4th at 14 under par, 4 shots behind winner Brett Coletta.

He took his continued good form to Kuala Lumpur this week for the Asian Tour’s first event of the 2024 season, the US$1m Malaysian Open.

Rounds of 68,66,69 & 65 for a 16 under par total snared a tie for ninth spot. Trav was looking for a big final round to give him a chance of getting a spot in The Open. But with a couple of guys shooting 9 and 10 under it was a big number to better!

The schedule for the first month of the Asian Tour is heavy on air miles. After KL it off to Oman then Christchurch New Zealand.
