Nice position heading into final round

Carding a 5 under par 4th round Travis is in a nice spot heading into the fifth round of Asian Q school.  There are a few players still to finish but Travis is currently T5 at 8 under par for the event.He recovered well from a double on the second by finding 7 birdies.The field has now been cut to top 70 and ties.  The cut was +1 at T59 with 72 players to tee up in the final round for a chance of a Tour Card."After the first round I did some good practice and since then I’ve kept the feels simple and played very well. I’m enjoying myself !"Top thirty get cards. The higher the finish the more starts a player gets in the higher value tournaments.  Top 5 is especially rewarding! 

Through to 3rd round

Travis got his act together and climbed from 188th spot to 44th with a second round 5 under par 66.  Big improvement after a first round 4 over 75!  For the tournament he is 1 under at 141.He made the second round cut of top 120 plus ties = +4 easily. (in the end!)In truth the first round was rain delayed after 9 holes for Travis when he was 5 under.  Then he returned to the course the following day at 7am into a three club wind.  Professional golf!Of over 26 Aussies in the field most of them made the 2 round cut although there were some notable misses.The fourth round cut is 70 plus ties.  Reporting back in a couple of days! 

You need a good head for this game

IMG_0896Standing at the short par 4 12th, Driver or 3 wood?  Practice round at Bonnie Doon with good friend James Grierson. They both got birdies.Travis left for Thailand two days later to try for his Asian Tour card.  He obtained exemption to final stage on the back of his amateur career.Tour school starts on 10 January for 5 days.  Played at two courses; Rayong Green Country Club and St Andrews 2000.Some 131 players were exempt to final stage to be joined by 111 players who fought through qualifiers.Q school is over 5 rounds with cuts after 2 rounds and 4 rounds which will see 70 players in the final round looking  to get top 35 and a tour card."Guess I am a bit rusty tournament wise after a six week break but I am eager to get going on this."There are 25 Aussies playing in the final stage.  A big number but no surprise given the depth of talent in Australia relative to the size of our local tour. But golf is increasingly competitive globally with an equal number of players arriving from Europe and the Americas despite the pathways available to them nearer home.IMG_0897 

Great finish to the PGA Championship

Carding a 4 under par 68 Travis was able to climb the leaderboard once again and finish tied 20th on 7 under par."Played awesome again today. The confidence I’ve gotten these last 3 weeks has been unreal. I know I can perform with these guys and when things come together I’ll be contending more and more.""Thanks to James Grierson for his help on the bag this past week."The result places Travis in the top 30 on the final standings of Australasian Order of Merit for 2017 after just three events.Jordan Zunic missed out on a win, and a European Tour card, after being beaten on the second play off hole by Queenslander Cameron Smith. They finished regular play tied at 18 under.

Tied 28th going into the final round

Travis shot a one under par third round 71 to move from T37 through to T28.  A round of 4 birdies and three bogeys.  He sits at 3 under for the tournament and only three shots from top ten.Leader is Jordan Zunic who had the round of the day with an eight under 64.  He was heading for a course record until he finished bogey double bogey.  At 17 under for the tournament he is three shots better than second place Cameron Smith.Sergio Garcia is 7th on 8 under."Hey, it could have been a bit better but I'm loving the challenge and looking forward to getting back out there tomorrow>"

Playing the weekend

Travis carded a one over par 73 to be 2 under for the tournament and T37.The cut of 60 plus ties was one under.The field is very tightly packed with the top ten being 6 under."Playing awesome golf and everything is in a great place but the only thing letting me down is reading the greens.""Finding it tough to hole any good opportunities out there. I enjoy playing my way up the leaderboard on the weekends so hopefully I can sneak my way into top 10 again!!!!"Leishman and Bland are leading at 12 under.

Australian PGA Championship

listTravis had a great start in the first round shooting a blemish free 3 under par 69 to be T 12.  "Played solid golf. Only missed 2 greens I think, and it feels like my game is in a good place at the moment. Could have been anything out there today!"The Championship is co-sanctioned by the European Tour and is being held at RACV Royal Pines Resort. The purse is $1.5m and over 40 European Tour players are contesting the Championship.Sergio Garcia is at 5 under T3, and Adam Scott is 1 under T 39.  Leading the field are Adam Bland and Jordan Zunic at 6 under.  

Top Ten finish at Aussie Open

The party is over for this year!DPjFkdPVoAAAPdHPlaying in only his second event as a professional Travis delivered a 4 under par finish in his national open championship to be T10.He was bested by some top US PGA tour players.He had rounds of 71, 69, 73 and 67 for a 4 under par total of 280.  He carded a bogey free round on the final day."The final day has to be one of my most memorable final tournament rounds.  I am excited to do even better."His coach John Serhan said,  "Trav played really, really well.  He consistently got up and down it was great to be there".Travis was keen to pass his thanks to Dean Kinney Golf NSW Coach who was on the bag and Precsion Golf who helped him out in their club fitting studio ahead of the tournament.Trav tees up at RACV Royal Pines on Thursday for the, European co-sanctioned, PGA Championship of Australia.  

Final round NSW Open

Travis carded rounds of 70,66,71 and 69 for a 12 under par total of 276 to finish T11.  By any measure a great result in playing as a professional for the first time._TRF2940"Lost count of the number of lip-outs today! But, hey I'm not complaining, really enjoyed the tournament.""Big shout out to everyone at Twin Creeks involved in the event and especially Joyce and Dave Berry for looking after me so well!"Travis tees up next week at the $1.25m Australian Open.

Staying in the Red

On the range with John Serhan._TRF2926Travis carded a 1 under par 71 in the 3rd round of the NSW Open.  He is now 9 under for the tournament and tied 14th.He managed to find 5 bogeys but erased them with 6 birdies!Leader is Jason Scrivener at 17 under. He shot a 6 under par 3rd round to jump up the leader board.  Yep that's "moving day!".  He is one shot ahead of Lucas Herbert and Daniel Nisbet who are tied second on 16 under."A much tougher day today with the wind getting up.""Bit of a frustrating round as you could guess from the score card! All good though, looking forward to resting up and getting back out there."Travis tees off tomorrow at 10.55 with tour veteran Scott Barr, who plays on the Asian Tour, and visiting Texan Kramer Hickok.

NSW Open Championship

And with that Travis teed off at the NSW Open at Twin Creeks Golf and Country Club.  The $400,000 tournament has the State Government as its major sponsor.After a steady 2 under par first round Travis got out of first gear to shoot 6 under in the second round.  He is T11 at 8 under going into the week end. Four golfers are tied for the lead at 12 under.Get out there!

Now to the next Chapter

IMG_0799Whilst not concluding his amateur career on a high note, Travis can look back with satisfaction at his performances and the rankings he has achieved during his final year in the amateur game.For the record he finished the Asia_Pacific Championships T24 with a 2 over par total of  286.  He had rounds of 70,71,75 and 70.Eventual winner was Yuxin Lin on 14 under.  Best of the Aussies was Min Woo Lee T3 at 7 under.Travis will likely announce his move to the professional ranks this week and seek to enter the NSW Open, Australian Open and Australian PGA Championships based on his winners category gained at the NT PGA Championship.Ready for the challenge, lets have some fun!

Asia-Pacific Championship third round

Travis finished with a four over par 75 in the third round of the Championship.  He is now three over for the tournament and T28.The leader is 17 year old Yuxin Lin from China on 8 under, one shot ahead of Aussie Min Woo Lee.Travis had a poor start carding a double on the second hole.  He pulled it back with a birdie to be even for the tournament but started the homeward nine with a double and bogey. Hard to recover after that.Travis is ranked 11th in the world and a good finish tomorrow would see him into the top ten amateurs globally.

Need to go Red in Wellington

37912649062_81fb11a0bc_bTravis shot an even par 71 in the second round of the Asia-Pacific Championships in Wellington NZ.He slipped a bit down the leaderboard to T14 at 1 under for the tournament. He is six shots behind the leader and fellow Aussie Min Woo Lee."Yeh hit it average off the tee so was always in tough positions and I lost two balls!  A lot of good stuff though."Lots of golf to play still!Full Leaderboard

Asia-Pacific Amateur Championships

Travis teed up at Royal Wellington Golf Club, New Zealand in what could be his last hurrah as an amateur golfer.  Simply put if he wins he stays amateur to take the prize of a start at The Masters and The Open, if not, he turns Pro and takes up his status on the PGA Tour of Australasia.The weather in Wellington was forecast as a high of 16 degrees with winds changing direction and up to 25 km/h.In the first round Travis carded a one under par 70 to be T11 and 7 shots behind leader Shae Wols-Cobb.  Travis was even par through 17 before collecting a birdie on the final hole.Harrison Endycott is also T11. Min Woo Lee is tied 2nd on 4 under par. Dylan Perry is one shot back from Travis at even par.The event is four stroke rounds with a cut to top 60 after 36 holes.  Last year's winner was Curtis Luck.

Back to the drawing board!

Fought hard through four rounds but Travis was unable to make up the 7 over deficit after the first two rounds of Tour School.He shot 2 under par in the final round to be 5 over for the Tour School and 5 back from the qualifying mark of even par."I am disappointed that I did so much damage the first two days.""I found a little something on the range in the morning of round 3 and shot 2 under from there. But at the same time I'm proud that I finished better and never gave up when, quite easily, I could have under the circumstances."Harrison Endycott also missed out finishing at 4 over.Good news on the Aussie front was West Australian Brady Watt advancing with a closing 3 under. For the record Watt is 27, turned pro four years ago and was Australia's number one amateur for 2013.Travis will tee up at the Asia Pacific Amateur in Wellington on 26 October.  Possibly his final amateur event!

Into the final round

Travis shot an even par round 72 to make the 54 hole cut at Frilford Heath on the cut number.At 7 over par for the event he is 7 shots off the qualifying mark.  A lot of ground to make up and he undoubtedly needs the field to come back."Hey I need a -7!!  Found something on the range this morning. I've had between 5-7 lip outs every day I'm bloody due!!!"Harrison Endycott, at 2 over, is 5 off the pace whilst Brady Watt is on the qualifying number of even par after carding 3 under.Go deep red Trav!

Uphill battle at tour school

In the second round of European Tour School at Frilford Heath Travis shot a disappointing 4 over par.  Travis went out in 5 over but recovered on the back nine with 1 under. He is now 7 over for the event and placed 70th.He is 8 shots from the qualifying mark of 1 under (top 20 and ties) in order to progress to second stage. There are two more rounds to play.However after the third round the field is cut to those players within 7 shots of the qualifying mark.Harrison Endycott fared better shooting 1 over to be 3 over for the event.  He still has a fight on his hands to make the mark. The other Aussie in the field, West Australian, Brady Watt slipped down the leaderboard with a 3 over par to be tied with Endycott on 4 over and in 49th place. 

First Stage European Tour School

Travis shot 3 over par in the first round of tour school at Frilford Heath in London.He carded 4 bogeys and one birdie.There are 102 players in the field.  Top 21 and ties qualify to go through to second stage.Currently Travis is a bit off the pace at T61. He is four shots away from being inside the top 21.Good friend and travelling partner Harrison Endycott is on shot better at 2 over.Travis tees off in the second round at 1.33pm (11.33pm Sydney) on Wednesday.

DSC_6163Pictured on the 18th at Palmerston Golf Club after sinking the winning putt.  Darren Beck congratulates Travis.The dust has settled after Trav's Australian Tour Victory at Palmerston Golf Club and it's very much back to work.He is now in London preparing for the first stage of European Tour School.  First Stage of tour school is held across six venues with up to 102 players at each course.  The exact number processing to second stage is annouced at the start of the event. The number progressing is the same ratio across all venues.  Expect about 25 to 30 to progress.Travis was able to get his preferred course at Frilford Heath, (Red Course), Abingdon, Oxfordshire, EnglandThe Q school commences on 3 October and is held over 72 holes.  There is a cut after 54 holes with only those players within 7 shots of qualifying (not the leader) progressing to the final round."I was keen to maintain my momentum after playing in NT, so I really didn't take much time off away from golf the last few weeks.  My practice sessions have been very productive so I am all good to go! I am looking forward to a big October with the Asia Pac Championships at month end"The Asia Pacific Amateur Championships will commence on 26 October in Wellington NZ.  Travis will be part of a six man Aussie contingent.
